Your All-Inclusive Guide to Getting New Dentures

Why you need new custom dentures

Patients get dentures is to replace missing teeth. They can replace a small number of teeth or all of them. There are many reasons why you may have lost some teeth and most often its from gum disease, tooth decay, or trauma.

Dentures can improve your smile, which also improves your quality of life. Because if you have missing teeth, it can affect your self-esteem, makes it difficult to chew, and even makes speaking without slurring your words a challenge.

How it works

Your dentures are more than artificial teeth. At Core Smiles, we believe that your dentures should match your personality. That’s why Dr. Gulizio puts a lot of care into developing your dentures.

During your appointment, Dr. Gulizio performs a thorough exam of your mouth. He looks at your unique features, like:

  • Oral Musculature

  • Bony Ridge Support

  • Salivary flow

This allows him to design dentures that not only fit comfortably but also compliment your facial features and personality. After he examines your oral cavity, he discusses the materials that Core Smiles uses to make your custom dentures.

Standard Esthetic Dentures

This type of denture uses standard-grade resin. The gingiva, which helps hold your dentures in place, is not custom tinted.

Premium Esthetic Dentures

With this option, we use ceramic or premium resin-reinforced ceramic to make your dentures. With denture resin that’s premium-grade and gum tissue that’s custom-tinted, this material best matches your natural gums and doesn’t wear as fast.

Economical Dentures

This type of denture uses standard-grade, non-tinted gingiva. These dentures have a more natural look but need to be replaced more often.

Dr. Gulizio can recommend which denture type is right for you.

Caring for your dentures

Dentures require special care. To extend the life of your dentures and to avoid damaging them, clean your dentures daily with a soft-bristled denture brush and a special denture foaming cleanser. Do not use bleach, toothpaste or household cleaning products.

Thoroughly rinse your dentures after every meal. Always use mild soap and warm water, as hot water can warp them. You should also soak them in a denture cleaning solution every evening.

If you drop your dentures, they’re probably going to break. Whenever you remove them, do so over a folded towel, bowl of water or a carpeted surface. When you’re not wearing them, store them in cold water with an effervescent denture-cleansing tablet.

Eating with dentures

During the first few weeks with dentures, you may need to start with a soft diet because it can take some time to adjust to chewing. Since your mouth isn’t used to them, they can slip off easily while eating. Don’t worry though, within a few weeks they will feel perfectly natural in your mouth. Don’t eat or drink anything too hot because it could cause damage to your dentures.
