Why Keeping Up With Your Dental Cleanings Is So Important

Keeping your mouth healthy is essential. The health of your mouth could indicate a bigger problem or reflect a great diet. Ke

Most people know the importance of going to the dentist, whether or not they go regularly. With about half of the people in the United States lacking dental insurance, it’s understandable that everyone doesn’t make it to the dentist as often as they should. This could have consequences later, though. If you aren’t covered, you may be eligible for coverage through your state’s insurance plan. Our professional team at Core Smiles is conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan and can refer you to finding public health options that can suit your needs.

Keeping your teeth clean isn’t just about keeping your teeth white and your breath fresh. Teeth whiteness and freshness aside, the health of your teeth could be compromised if you don’t visit our office at least twice per year. Getting regular cleanings from our team of caring and gentle professionals is an important step to optimal lifelong health, both oral and overall. Maintaining proper oral hygiene can protect you from a variety of illnesses, some of which can be chronic conditions

What happens when I come in for a cleaning?

Our courteous and helpful team schedules an appointment for you that’s mindful of your schedule and commitments. When you arrive, you’ll be taken to a private room, where you receive your examination and X-rays.

We start by making sure that we don’t see anything concerning in your mouth, and the surrounding areas. If we see something that raises concern, we inform you immediately and either schedule additional testing or perform it for you immediately, depending on the concern.

After your exam, we use special sterile instruments to remove any plaque, clean the surfaces and crevices between your teeth, and give your teeth a thorough flossing. If you have questions about proper daily care for your teeth, we’re more than happy to answer any questions that you may have. We’ll also suggest an appropriate cleaning schedule for you based on the health of your teeth, as well as your overall health.

How can regular teeth cleanings help my overall health?

Bad oral health has been linked to an increased risk for endocarditis, an infection of the inner lining of the heart from germs that originate in the mouth. Skipping regular cleanings also raises your chances of other cardiovascular disease, pneumonia, and pregnancy complications for expecting women. If you’re living with a chronic condition like diabetes, osteoporosis, HIV/AIDS, or other long-term illness, your oral health could suffer.

Don’t wait too long between cleanings. Let us help you. Call us, or schedule an appointment online.
