Dental implants are artificial roots and teeth made of titanium or zirconia (a strong metal-free ceramic). Dental implants are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone under local anesthesia or conscious sedation. Depending on the quality of bone, it is possible to place a tooth or an entire arch of teeth on a dental implant at the time of surgery; otherwise, after a 3 month healing period, teeth can then be attached to the dental implant. Dental implants are very natural-looking and will enhance or restore a patient’s smile! They are a growing phenomenon in replacing missing teeth, and may even be used to replace multiple missing teeth as an alternative to dentures.
This procedure is typically implemented to:
Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.
Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into a missing tooth space.
Restore a patient’s confident smile.
Restore chewing, speech, and digestion.
Restore or enhance facial tissues.
Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable.
WHAT TO EXPECT
To start your dental implant treatment, we will take scans and x-rays of your teeth. The Core Smiles team will then develop your unique treatment plan and discuss your options for sedation during the process. In your first appointment, the implants will be surgically installed. This process is not painful or uncomfortable. For our All-On-4 treatment, we will place a temporary denture over the implants while your mouth heals. After several months, you will return to have your custom dentures attached and then adjusted for a good fit.
You may experience some discomfort and pain in your gums after implant surgery. During the time you are using temporary dentures, there will be some dietary restrictions and cleaning instructions to follow. You will also need to visit Core Smiles for regular follow-ups during the healing period so we can monitor your progress and make sure the implants are integrating into your jawbone and gums as they should be. Once your custom dentures are placed, you can clean them like natural teeth with daily brushing and flossing. You should continue to see the Core Smiles team for annual exams and bi-annual cleanings to maintain your dentures, and so we can monitor the health of your mouth.
Some insurance plans may offer limited coverage for implant dentures. It is likely that there will be some out-of-pocket costs, but our team will work with your insurance to maximize your coverage. If you don't have insurance, Core Smiles accepts many payment methods, including low-interest financing. We can help make your dental implant treatment affordable.
